Scotland SNP to fight for independence after exit poll predicts 20 more seats

Scots are already demanding a second referendum on independence after an exit poll predicted huge gains for the SNP.

The survey, which is considered an accurate indicator of the final outcome, predicts Nicola Sturgeon’s party will gain 20 seats.

Her party campaigned on a mandate to stop Brexit and ‘lock Boris Johnson out of number 10.’

If the exit poll is correct, it means the SNP are set to return to near complete dominance in Scotland, wining 55 out of the country’s 59 constituencies and getting close to the 56 seats they won in 2015.

Angus Robertson, the Scottish National party’s former Westminster leader, told BBC Scotland that if the exit poll is right then Scottish demands for a second independence referendum are ‘undeniable.’

He said Boris Johnson, who has ruled out granting Scotland indyref2, could not ignore the SNP’s gains and would have to allow the country to stage a second independence vote.

55 is trending on twitter, with Scots voicing their support for a second referendum.

Although the first Independence vote in 2014 was dubbed a ‘once in a generation vote’, SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said Brexit justified a second chance to break away from the UK.

Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the European Union and the SNP’s position is to stop Brexit.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon posted on Twitter: ‘Exit poll suggests good night for
@theSNP – but it is just an exit poll and there are many marginals, so let’s just wait and see.

‘What it indicates UK wide though is grim.’

The exit poll predicts an 86 seat majority for the Tories.

If correct, it will give them the largest share of the vote since Margret Thatcher’s victory in 1987.
