Are you seriously implying that Mick Mars is talented?

They had some good tunes, and I fkn love how the bass drum sounds. Dr Feelgood, Kick Start My Heart, Wild Side....sure they had some lame shit, all the hair metal bands did, but their good tunes were better than most of the other hair bands.

I guess GnR qualifies as hair metal, but metallica? Metallica's dead to me as of the Black album anyway tho. When I listen to AJFA, I make sure its one of the ones that fans have put real bass tracks over that drowns almost everything else out

GnR was not hair metal.. And Im not saying Metallica was either.. I'm saying that hair metal sucked and was for hipsters. It's better known name was "Glam Rock"..

GnR was an Aerosmith clone, but I agree, they were not hair metal. Pre-Black Album, Metallica were the kings of thrash metal, also not hair metal. Post-Black album, they were just a shell of their former selves sadly trying to fit in a world that was changing around them.

When I experienced it back in the 80s, I did not appreciate hair metal. My adherence to thrash and death metal and punk rock forbade it. However, as I've gotten older, I have found value in it... but not in Motley Crue. There are/were some ridiculously good guitar players in hair metal bands, and some really good songs.

I don't know about that whole hipster thing. Where I grew up the "hipsters" of the day were listening to top 40 pop.

We had a local radio station that played all the new top 40 music.. I could swear they had Motley Crue on there.. I first heard of them from some Q-94 listeners. As far as getting older, I will admit I like to hear some of Motly Crues songs here and there, (home sweet home, kick start my fart, etc) but for all intents and purposed they still kind of suck and are weak sauce.

Also, I in no way agree on your Aerosmith comparison.

same, except I see some value in the crue, and I dunno if I really agree with the aerosmith thing crue werent especially talented, but they did have a handful of good rockin songs...GnR...just some hard rockin LA druggies, I feel bad that all of their good songs were put on Appetite and none of their other material is worth listening to - but Appetite is such a good album that it makes up for them never having written anything else worth mentioning

Upon aging and quiet reflection, two subtle facts will dawn on you:

1, GnR were a band that were heavily influenced by 70's era Aerosmith. Put some punk rock and pop sensibilities into the mix, and one shitty vocalist, and you've got GnR.

    2. The Black Crowes (a band that I absolutely love, mind you), desperately wanted to be the Rolling Stones. Throw in a bunch of Southern Rock influence and you've got the Black Crowes.

I've known these 2 facts since the mid-90s, and many other music fans and musicians agree with me.
