Yup, because then it would be no difference than an above average flu season.

    Exactly. And we're at 1300.

I suspect it's a little like why they don't show footage from a war. Watching somebody's suffocate in their own fluids and have organ failure could be a little disturbing.

Yes but it would have been the economic disruption that kept it below 40,000. If you just let it run its course you could have a million dead easily

I guess we will see once this all washes out. Have to look at the final percentages.

Right now the fatality percentage rates are really high because the vast majority of people being tested are those that are sick enough to go to the hospital. It's not taking into account the masses of people that stay at home and get over it. That number is expected to drop drastically as more and more tests become available and more people with mild symptoms get tested. A lot are saying that the final numbers could be very similar to the annual flu.

You keep declaring things as if you're the only one who knows for sure. It pissed me off before and I got into trouble for it when I took you and Hikari to task over it. The fact is that you don't know. And neither does anybody else on either side. This is something that nobody can declare for certain. However, it doesn't hurt to question the logic.

I really think that we are going to start seeing a push to carefully start getting people back to work. Now that some of the unemployment numbers are coming in it seems like the focus might change a bit.

Especially if they extend all the lockdowns for an indefinite period of time. People were mostly willing and able to lock down for 15 days but if they ask us to go any longer and institute more martial law type policies I really can see a big push back start to happen. I think Trump is aware of this too.

Oddly Vietnam didn't kill many more than that on the US side, it was around 52K.

It will be very interesting to see over time just where the various countries and their figures end up given the different strategies, UK and US should be comparable when adjusted for population, and we can see the effect of relaxing things in the US if indeed they do start to relax things, UK is just about to peak and unlikely to relax for quite some time, give it a week, then it'll get exceptionally messy in London.
I'm utterly fascinated by the figures and the retrospectives that can be done on this, its years worth of active papers and investigations afterwards.
In the meantime I await my redeployment to front line.
