Could it be possible that the phrase “dark winter” has some sort of deeper meaning that most of us are not meant to understand? We have heard that phrase over and over again in recent weeks, and usually it has been used in discussions regarding the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic. But it also turns out that “Dark Winter” was also a code name for a high level simulation that was conducted back in 2001. That simulation envisioned a scenario in which a widespread smallpox attack was unleashed inside the United States. As you will see below, the simulation was “designed to spiral out of control”, and the hypothetical consequences were absolutely disastrous.

The future of flying during the coronavirus means carrying a passport to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

The International Air Transport Association is in the process of finalizing a digital COVID-19 passport that would include information about a traveler’s COVID-19 testing and vaccinations that would be verified by labs, airlines and government agencies, according to a new report.

“Testing is the first key to enable international travel without quarantine measures. The second key is the global information infrastructure needed to securely manage, share and verify test data matched with traveler identities in compliance with border control requirements," CEO of IATA Alexandre de Juniac said in a statement, explaining: "We are bringing this to market in the coming months to also meet the needs of the various travel bubbles and public health corridors that are starting operation."

The Hill was first to report news that the digital COVID-19 passport is in development.

The COVID-19 passport would provide a health itinerary of sorts that would identify testing facilities and labs for passengers at their place of departure, and ensure passengers are safe and able to travel to their destination without restrictions such as quarantine.

No governments have enforced a requirement for travelers to get vaccinated before entering another country. However, the CEO of Australian airline Qantas has stated his intentions for the carrier to require vaccinations ahead of international travel.

“We are looking at changing our terms and conditions to say for international travelers that we will ask people to have a vaccination before they can get on the aircraft,” Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said.

Spokespersons for both Korean Air and Air New Zealand have said that the airlines may ultimately require passengers to get vaccinated in order to fly.

Meanwhile, millions of Americans traveled during the Thanksgiving holiday, despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warning against visiting relatives and friends. White House coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx on Sunday voiced her concern about an increase in COVID-19 cases following holiday travel and went on to advise Americans to get tested following holiday gatherings.

I for one would feel a lot safer having been vaccinated and knowing all those sharing the cabin with me have also had an inoculation against this deadly virus!

Punters have flocked back to pubs and restaurants in their droves after those in tier one and two areas were allowed to reopen for the first time in at least a month.

Drinkers were seen happily consuming their substantial meals along with glasses of wine and pints of beer as they caught up with old friends again.

Current rules state pubs in tier two can only sell alcohol with a meal and people are only allowed to sit indoors with people they live with.

Up to six friends or family members who live apart can meet up outside in groups of no more than six – leading to thousands of people having to brave the cold in order enjoy being back at the pub.

In Liverpool, which was in tier three before the national lockdown started on November 5, people have had to wait even longer before getting a pint.

Pictures showed the city centre busy with thousands of people heading out for the first relative night of freedom and there were long queues to get into popular venues.

Some even appeared to have had one substantial meal too many as they made their way home after the new 11pm curfew.

Boris Johnson has given his blessing for pubs that don’t usually sell food to team up with nearby restaurants and takeaways to offer a meal alongside booze.













It comes after a farcical row over scotch eggs this week, where ministers argued over whether the popular bar snack would count as a substantial meal – eventually deciding that it does.

The Government has tried to use a light-touch approach to enforcing the rules, preferring to leave it up to the discretion of the landlords.

A Downing Street spokesman said yesterday: ‘It’s for both customers and venues to act reasonably and to exercise good judgement when adhering to these regulations.’

Large fines have been threatened for any pub owner who’s caught deliberately flouting restrictions. Police were seen patrolling the streets of London’s Soho on Wednesday night with one officer taking pictures for pub-goers.

Those who did head out faced icy conditions while sitting outside with friends. Temperatures dropped to close to freezing in some parts of the UK and there was some snowfall in the highest parts of Britain.

Those hoping for a weekend pint are being warned that the cold weather will continue into Friday and last for the rest of the week.

Pubs in tier three areas are still waiting to reopen and can only offer takeaways or deliveries currently.

Only 1% of the population is living under the most relaxed tier one restrictions. In Cornwall, the Isle of Wight and the Scilly Isles, people can meet up with people inside and the requirement to serve a substantial meal has been removed.

The Government say the tiers will be reviewed in two weeks time and some areas could be moved around before Christmas.

Today, according to Worldometers (their numbers are always a bit bigger than Johns Hopkins') US had 203,737 new Covid-19 cases, 2,833 deaths, and from other sources, it is said that we got 105,000 people in hospitals with Covid-19. All three numbers are the highest ever since the pandemic started.

Exactly. They just opened another Covid testing site right near where I work. You should see the line of cars there every day when I leave work to go home. It's ridiculous.
