The US Senate has voted that the second impeachment trial against former US president Donald Trump is constitutionally valid and should continue.

The vote passed with 56 votes to 44, meaning six Republicans voted in favour of the motion.

Impeachment managers have been arguing that Mr Trump incited insurrection last month, and that a former president must be held to account for all conduct in office, regardless of whether that conduct occurred in his final week.

The Trump defense is that if convicted it will lead to more violence..... Let's not have fair justice if the outcome could be difficult to handle.

The fact that a conviction could result in violence is not a reason for non-conviction nor is the fact that he is a republican. Innocence is the only only reason for acquittal.
