WTF Police say Hwy. 26 drunk driver had .77 blood alcohol level

    By KTVZ news sources

WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A driver and hit-and-run suspect crashed on Highway 26 Friday afternoon and was found to have a blood alcohol level of .77%, more than nine times the legal limit, police said.

Madras police reported a hit-and-run crash around 1 p.m. near the Plateau Travel Plaza in Madras, Warm Springs police said in a Facebook posting.

The vehicle was reported to be traveling toward Warm Springs. Officers found the vehicle and pulled over the driver, who they observed was highly intoxicated.

The driver then fled and led police on a short pursuit before crashing into a concrete barrier off the westbound lane, about a half-mile from the initial stop, officers said.

Along with the extremely high alcohol level, the driver had a suspended license for a misdemeanor-level DUII, police said.

The driver was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. Officers said criminal charges are pending.

Warm Springs police also thanked ODOT, Oregon State Police, Madras police and Jefferson County sheriff's deputies for their assistance.

That takes a whole new level of dedication to get your tolerance to alcohol built up like that 99.99% of people would be long past dead at that level.

I still remember when the limit in Texas was .8, not .08 as it is now.

There's no way For the vast majority of people anything above .4 is very likely to be fatal. Most states were .1 before the changes were all made when the clamp down on DUI started.

Dunno what I was thinking, yeah, .1 was correct. Changed in 2000. There's talk now of dropping to .05.

Here in Colorado, there is a .05 limit in addition to the .08 for DUI. At .05 you can get arrested for a DWAI which is Driving While Ability Impaired.

    Ours is .05

Here's the thing, experienced drinkers will be fine at .05, but the occasional tippler can be quite inebriated.

It is not practical to test how inebriated you are so they just use blood alcohol. Everyone gets the same net

I get it, but .05 is less then drinking one 12 oz light beer. I don't think I have seen anyone f'ed off of one light beer that they couldn't drive.

    I think that's too conservative

Over here, the rule of thumb is two standard drinks in the first hour and 1 every hour after that (for adult male)

One standard drink is 12 ounces of regular beer,

drink that and hit up a breathalyzer and let us know what you get and whether you feel if you're ok to drive or not
