13-year-old driving stolen car while live-streaming causes crash that kills passenger

ABILENE, Texas — Four teenage boys driving in a stolen car while live-streaming were involved in a deadly crash in Texas.

The Abilene Police Department in a news release on Wednesday said a 13-year-old boy was behind the wheel. The oldest person in the car was 15 years old.



At 3:09 a.m. EDT, the Bosch system, which is similar to OnStar, in the 2018 Audi S5 coupe reported a crash.

But the car was gone when police arrived at the scene.

Thirty minutes later, a parent called police to say their son and others were live-streaming on social media in a stolen car.

The owner of the stolen Audi then called to report his vehicle was missing.

The car was spotted less than 10 minutes later leaving the scene of a theft at a convenience store.

Police found the car just after 4 a.m. EDT in a hotel parking lot.

According to police, the 13-year-old driver hit a patrol car and took off.

Two miles down the road, police said he crashed into a traffic pole at a "high rate of speed" and the car caught fire.

A 13-year-old passenger was ejected and later died at the hospital.

The driver, along with a 14-year-old and 15-year-old passenger, were also taken to the hospital.
