I believe I've seen the 70s adaptation, but don't quote me on that. I don't really remember much about it. 1979, I believe. The earlier adaptation is from the 30s. The book was written in the late 1920s. I've never actually read the book, but I know it's a WW1 era story told from the perspective of German soldiers and it was banned in Nazi Germany in the 30s as anti-German propaganda. I think it won some awards. I distinctly remember having a high school history teacher that was really big on the World Wars and would constantly name drop books or films that we, his students, should read/watch, but as far as I know, none of us ever did. Teenagers, man.
