News Jeremy Renner exits surgery after suffering blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries in accident: report

By Mariah Haas , Greg Wehner | Fox News

Jeremy Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries following a "weather related" snowplow accident on January 1, according to a new report.

People magazine reported that it received a statement from Renner’s representative, confirming the injuries that the Marvel star sustained on Sunday.

"We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd 2023," the statement read, according to People. "He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.

"Jeremy's family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families," the statement continued. "They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans."

A source told People magazine on Monday that Renner's injuries were "extensive." The "Mayor of Kingstown" and Marvel star's rep shared that Renner is in "critical but stable condition" and is "receiving excellent care."

Renner was injured in an area near Mt. Rose Highway, a road linking Lake Tahoe, which straddles the Nevada-California border, and south Reno. The Washoe County (Nevada) Sheriff's Office said late Sunday that Renner had to be flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment.

Renner owns a home in Washoe County, which includes Reno, and told the Reno Gazette Journal in 2019 that he chose the area because Reno was the right-sized city for him, it has majestic scenery and it allowed him and his family to ski frequently.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Renner's rep for comment.

Renner was the only person involved in Sunday's accident, and the sheriff's office said in a news release that it is investigating.

"At approximately 9:00am on January 1, 2023, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a traumatic injury in the area of Mt. Rose Highway in Reno, Nevada," the release read.

"Upon arrival, Deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport of Mr. Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital," it continued. "Mr. Renner was the only involved party in the incident."

Following the news, stars sent their well-wishes to Renner, 51. Actor Josh Gad tweeted, "My God. Praying for @JeremyRenner and his family."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" director and new co-chairman of DC Studios, James Gunn, wrote: "My heart is with @JeremyRenner."

Renner plays Hawkeye, a sharp-shooting member of the superhero Avengers squad in Marvel's sprawling movie and television universe.

He is a two-time acting Oscar nominee, scoring back-to-back nods for "The Hurt Locker" and "The Town." Renner's portrayal of a bomb disposal specialist in Iraq in 2009's "The Hurt Locker" helped turn him into a household name.

"The Avengers" in 2012 cemented him as part of Marvel's grand storytelling ambitions, with his character appearing in several sequels and getting its own Disney+ series, "Hawkeye."

A family member driving Renner's car had got stuck in the snow near his house, the sheriff said. Using his snow plough, Renner successfully towed the car free.

He then got out to talk to his relative, but the snow plough began to move while empty.

Renner was trying to get back into the driver's seat to stop it moving, when the "extremely large" piece of equipment ran him over, Mr Balaam said.

All the more sad that he was just trying to help people.

Update Jeremy Renner’s snow plow injuries ‘worse than anyone knows’: report

By Allie Griffin - New York Post

Jeremy Renner’s injuries from his freak snow plow accident are “worse than anyone knows” and could require two years to fully heal, according to a new report.

The Marvel actor suffered critical injuries in the New Year’s Day incident in which he was run over by the heavy duty machinery near his Reno, Nevada home.

Renner was airlifted to the hospital for “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries,” according to a statement from his representative.

He has undergone surgery and remains in the hospital, where he has shared some selfies and videos since.

However, a source close to the “Hawkeye” actor told Radar Online that his condition is worse than what has been revealed publicly.

“It’s much worse than anyone knows,” the source said. “Jeremy is very aware of the fact that he almost died out there.”

Renner, 42, was helping a stranded motorist by clearing the snow when his Kässbohrer PistenBully snow plow began rolling on its own. As he attempted to hop behind the wheel and stop it, the 6.5-ton plow ran him over, crushing his leg.

The Oscar-nominated actor suffered “extreme difficulty” breathing and was bleeding heavily from his head. The right side of his chest collapsed as his upper torso was crushed by the vehicle, according to a 911 log obtained by TMZ.

“Word is the damage to Jeremy’s chest was so substantial, it had to be reconstructed in surgery,” a source told Radar Online.

An insider told the outlet that it could take two years for Renner to make a full recovery.

“So far, he’s had two surgeries and he will likely require more in the weeks ahead on his leg,” the source said. “Doctors tend to space out operations to allow time for the body’s natural healing process to kick in, and that’s the case here.”

Apparently, his big balls of steel require absolutely no medical help whatsoever. I hope he recovers quickly.

Update Jeremy Renner walks using antigravity treadmill as he recovers from traumatic snowplow accident

By Tracy Wright | Fox News

Jeremy Renner showed his recovery efforts as he walked on a treadmill nearly four months after being crushed by a snowplow.

The 52-year-old actor was fastened inside an antigravity machine which allowed him to transfer 60% of the weight off his lower body and enabled him to have almost full range of motion in his legs.

In a video shared with his millions of fans on Twitter, the "Hawkeye" star said he was using "40% of his weight" to walk on the high-tech equipment.

The update was a stark contrast to how Renner began the year. On Jan. 1, Renner was airlifted to a local hospital in Reno, Nevada and had surgery after suffering blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries when he was "completely crushed" by his 14,000-pound PistenBully snowcat.

Renner could be heard praising the apparatus for its unique features, which made his body feel like it was carrying "less weight."

"It's like having a cane," he said of using the special treadmill, which is designed to ease effects of high-impact exercises.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe star wore a gray T-shirt as he walked on the device from what appeared to be in the comfort of his own home.

"I now have to find OTHER things to occupy my time so my body can recover from my will," he captioned the post.

He recently celebrated the homecoming of the PistenBully involved in the traumatic incident which could have cost him his life.

"She's finally making her way home," he wrote alongside a picture of his beloved snowplow.

"The cat get a police Escort. Feels like the Green mile!"

Renner was involved in an accident near his Lake Tahoe home while attempting to help a family member whose vehicle was stuck in the snow on the first day of the year.

A massive snowstorm the night before had left multiple vehicles stranded, and Renner attempted to move one vehicle from his driveway by using his PistenBully. He successfully moved the car, exited the PistenBully and was speaking with a family member when the snowplow began to roll unexpectedly.

Renner attempted to jump back into the 14,000-pound snowcat, but was run over. Dispatch reported a subject was "moaning loudly in the background" of a call at 8:58 a.m. where "serious bleeding" was recorded. Seconds later dispatch wrote, "subject is bleeding heavily from his head and other unknown injuries."

It was also noted the caller wasn't sure "where all the blood is coming from." Additionally, the 911 call log stated that it's believed Renner's "right side of his chest is collapsed" and "upper torso is crushed."

He suffered chest trauma, broke over 30 bones, and has undergone multiple surgeries as a result of the accident.

Renner became a two-time Oscar nominee with "The Hurt Locker" and "The Town." He earned his own Disney+ series, "Hawkeye," after multiple appearances in MCU films, including "The Avengers" series.

He's gearing up for a new automobile renovation show called "Rennervations," where he will travel the world with his best friend, Rory Milikin, in search of decommissioned vehicles to refurbish a reuse in extraordinary ways.

I'm glad he's recovering. I really like Jeremy as an actor. From what I've seen of him in his personal life, he's a decent fellow, too.

Update Jeremy Renner Announces Significant Career Update After Nearly Dying

    by David Hookstead - Outkick

Jeremy Renner is officially back to work on “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Renner nearly died at the start of 2023 in a horrific and tragic plowing accident. He suffered gruesome injuries after the plow rolled up on him while attempting to protect a family member.

He’s had a long road to recovery, and many fans wondered when he’d be able to get back to cranking out some work.

His “Mayor of Kingstown” co-star Emma Laird indicated at the end of December the pair would be back on set soon, but there’d been no official word from the face of the Paramount+ series.

Jeremy Renner back to work on “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Well, that recently changed when Renner announced on Instagram that he was back to filming the third season of the incredibly dark and gritty show.

“Day one on set … nervous today Hope this works out that I can ACTUALLY pull this off for our production and more importantly the fans,” the Hollywood star announced.

This is awesome news for Renner, his family, everyone involved with the show and all the fans who watch.

Renner went from suffering near-fatal injuries in a plowing accident to being back to filming the hit show just a year later. That’s an incredible comeback.

His eye popped out, skull was exposed and more than 30 bones were broken. The man is incredibly lucky to be alive. There’s really no reason he was other than the fact the people around him sprung into action to stabilize him until he could receive life-saving care.

Now, production is underway on season three of “Mayor of Kingstown.” That means it will probably be released at some point in late 2024. This year is really shaping up to be great for entertainment. It should be awesome once new episodes drop, and major shoutout to Jeremy Renner for making it back. That’s the kind of comeback you love to see.
