Dick Dale, etc... Some of those groups had great guitarists. Didja know that ZZ Top began more like a surf band until they injected more blues into the equation. Southern Culture on the Skids were more surf-y on their first album.
And the Canadian group Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet is a fave as well.
My old Roland Cube amp has a real echo chamber in it so it sounds very surf-y.

I still think this is the greatest surf song ever!
You've probably never heard of Bill Black...but so many artist ripped him off and did versions of his songs in the surf era...
His original - Memphis - was only an instrumental back then.
And his Red River Rock - redone by Johnny and the Hurricanes. I played this (on guitar with my wife on organ) at a gig that went sideways on me...this one got them back dancing...
