Man claiming to be God arrested after attacking police officers

A man high on drugs, claiming to be God, ran at four officers in Colorado Springs early this morning before he was subdued and arrested, police said.

The incident happened about 3:40 a.m. at the Residence at Austin Bluffs, 4130 Morning Sun Ave., according to the Colorado Springs Police Department blotter.

Officers were sent to the apartments on a report of a burglary and encountered a man in a hallway who "charged towards them claiming to be God," police said.

The man failed to comply with police orders. Officers used a stun gun and to "no effect." The man "charged officers once again" and he was stunned a second time, the blotter reported.

The man tried to run away and was tackled in the hallway.

Police said the man had smoked psilocybin mushrooms, "a hallucinogenic drug with similar effects to LSD" and the drugs gave him "unusual strength."

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jorelle Antivo, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

"Only after medical intervention did he regain a calm demeanor," according to the blotter.

Antivo was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a peace officer, police said. No officers were injured in the skirmish.
