Video after video of guitar theory. I'm soooo lost. Stich method seems to be IMHO the most understandable. It's easy to find a lesson on a song, but how to learn guitar...so-so
Guitar theory is music theory without the piano and the piano's extended chords. You're limited by 4 fingers (5, if you thumb-fret the low E-string from time to time... it can come in handy with certain chords) and 6 strings as opposed to using all 10 fingers and 88+ keys on the piano/keyboard.
A lot of people try to learn the guitar without learning to read standard notation, but I think that's a mistake. A lot of well-versed guitar instructors do as well. I had the benefit of playing the trumpet before picking up the guitar, so I learned to read standard notation at a very early age. I also have B-flat stuck in my ear.
I'm on a thrash/death metal kick right now... as if you couldn't tell by the videos I've been posting. October = Halloween = Horror = vicious and brutal music. When Halloween gets closer, I'll switch over to my Halloween classical playlist.

My musical background is percussion. While I used to be able to read sheet music, not really anymore. I guess what I'm aiming for now, is to be able to play guitar, not play a song, if that makes sense, lol. I figure I have about 20 more years left.
It shouldn't take you that long. What genre are you focusing on?
