    Since I've worked in Agriculture and I've lived in Alberta and elsewhere in Canada I can say you're both right. I would say that U.S. beef from a known producer (grain fed, etc) is about the same as top notch Alberta beef filet from the store. I've had both.

    BUT, go to the Alberta farm yourself (I knew a cattle rancher just outside of Red Deer) and get some of their beef, and the meat falls off the bone before you touch it! I would liken it to going to Grand Cayman and eat a banana off the tree direct vs buying it at your grocer...no comparison.

    The butcher I go to gets all his beef from private stock
