It is about 10€ for a dentist fee then about 14€ per filling if just a basic job.

Should add that it varies from city to city..and if you go to a private practice, it is slightly more expensive, but not too much. And from stuff done at the private sector, the state pays a part anyway so it is not that much more expensive.

Last trip to the dentist for me was the root canal and crown that I got for my broken tooth. My dental insurance covered 80% of the root canal and 50% of the crown and I was still out of pocket about $400

Yeah...and like I added in the first post, they vary a little bit too from city to city, but only by a few euros. Still cheap as heck, just like any healthcare.

So the answer to "who pays the rest" is the government pays it through taxes.

I have insurance, you can get 4 fillings per year for free. But, thats the metal/silver whatever it is type of filing. If you want the white kind that matches your teeth then you have to pay the difference between the cost of the two, which is minimal.

Amalgam? We stopped using that over here ages ago... not a very good one for filling that one. It is ugly and it has high percentage of mercury which is not exactly a healthy metal... I didn't know they even made those anymore anywhere. So yea, definitely worth paying for the plastic fillings.

I also pay $11 a week out of my check for the family dental coverage, the rest my work covers. So that's still $572 a year that I pay. makes me wonder if its worth it
