I'll have to get back to this later. I can't find it right now. I've got two three-drawer file cabinets here that I need to clean out and organize. It's in there somewhere.

I think I had to pay over $4000 for the equivalent of 4 missing teeth

Dental insurance/costs make all other medical costs seem cheap by comparison

Nothing for fillings or a cleaning. Insurance also covers 80% on the major stuff (root canal) and 50% on the rest (crowns/etc).

Edit: My dental insurance is $6 a pay period or $12 a month.

My company pays for my dental insurance - it covers $1500 per year which covers 100% of the usual cleaning - fillings etc. 50% for Crowns and dentures.

I think an average filling is $200 or so.

Thanks to Goofy for my sig

I have no idea what my insurance covers... Since I only ever need a cleaning every six months I have never needed to know what the deal is..

I shouldn't post in this thread..

Mine is similar to MrsM's...one lump sum per year that can be applied to routine preventative/restorative work like cleanings, fillings and a potion of root canals/crowns.
It seems good on the surface, but you can blow 1000 bucks pretty easy if you get your teeth cleaned twice a year and get something simple like a couple of fillings.

Thing is...dentists typically charge for units of time, so much per 10 minutes.

I had a brutal root canal, 4 canals and felt every drillstroke because of a problem I have.In 2005 the procedure was 1200 bucks so I asked EXACTLY what I paid for.
RC packing material and RC medicine they throw in the hollowed out tooth in under 100 dollars...so the assistant became frustrated with my probing questions and accusations
and said - "Well you're paying for the dentist's time and stress!"

I walked out of that place never to return..

I used to get fun things called occlusional adjustments. You saddle up in the chair, they take some impressions of your bite and mark your teeth, then they get a number of drill attachments
and start sawing down the enamel on multiple teeth...without any freezing.Kinda like sawing down uneven table legs.

at the time...100 bucks per 10 minutes and there was no guarantee that your bite would improve...in fact most times it made the muscles in my face and jaw spasm constantly.

that shit wakes a guy up at 7am....especially when you can see and smell chunks of your teeth flying out of your mouth

In my insurance, they give you so many "units" and if you go over the unit count, you start to pay. My cleaning went over the "units" and I had to pay $100 for the extra...that didn't include any fillings...which I had just 1.

I used to have lots of fillings...my mouth is full of metal. And the dentist says that they're 30+ years old so they'll have to be yanked and a bridge or two will have to be done...but I've avoided going seeing the dentist for about 3 years now...it doesn't hurt and the guy forgot last time what he said to me, and said "no, your old fillings are fine"...must've been a slow month before....

Ok, I messed up. My dental insurance is $76 per month. The entire health care package I have is around $580 a month, with the dental plan included.

I knew the $500 per month was ridiculously high for dental alone.
