    Advice New Truck Recommendations

I might be in the market for a new vehicle. I wasn't planning on doing it until sometime mid-next year (my current truck will be paid off in February) but I just kinda started looking and if I can get a good deal, I might pull the trigger early.

The biggest thing will be what I can get in trade on my truck, hopefully enough to pay it off and have $3 or $4K to put towards the new vehicle, plus a couple of thousand in cash.

My last 2 trucks have been ford Ranger 4WD's and I absolutely love them. From a few e-mails with a Ford dealership though it appears that the 2011 model year will be the end of the Ranger. Only problem is that the prices of the 2011 Rangers seems rather high compared to what I paid for my last two trucks. I'm also looking at the Tacoma from Toyota as well, which I have always thought was a good looking truck.

I'd rather stay with the mid-size truck instead of full-sized and would prefer to stay away from Government Motors/Dodge.

Anyone have any recommendations knowing my preferences now?

The Japanese imports certainly hold their value, and Toyota is a good pick for North America because they have a plant here to build them, therefore the parts availability is good as well. If you plan on keeping a car for a while, stay away from an importer who doesn't have a N. American plant. Parts costs are way higher.

    Something to consider....

Nissan has just scrapped a bunch of parts for its old cars...making my 1992 Nissan obsolete - no parts are available except for used for much of my car. They say this is a combo of the earthquake decimating some parts facilities, and supply chains, the economic downturn, and the Japanese way of having a car for only a few years, as opposed to many N. Americans who keep their cars a long time.

If you buy any other pickup other than a Ranger, you will probably get better gas mileage...Rangers are old-tech and they didn't modernize them as they did with other Fords. Very rugged and dependable, though. You should see deals galore once they discontinue them.

Consider slightly used...I just bought a 2005 Ford Freestar van for $7,000 - new it was $24,000. It only had 62.000 miles and still smelt brand new.

BUT, I can't sell my old van...put it in CraigsList and NO ONE inquired.

What do they run in the UK?

They aren't cheap here, but fairly close to average priced anymore for a truck that size

My boss wants to be my negotiator (and he's damn good at it) so I might go down and look at the truck I posted above today. If he can get me a good deal, I might consider it today
