The hacker speaks.
On Wednesday, the FBI arrested Christopher Chaney for accessing protected computers without authorization, damaging protected computers, wiretapping and aggravated identity theft; Chaney, 35, is accused of hacking into the computers, cell phones and other devices of over 50 people, including Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis, Christina Aguilera, Vanessa Hudgens and dozens of other celebs.
As a result, a slew of private, highly personal info and images -- including nude photos of Johansson, 26 -- were leaked onto the web.
"Unfortunately, Mr. Chaney was able to access nude photos of some of the celebrities and some of them were uploaded on the Internet," U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said Wednesday.
"I deeply apologize," Chaney told CNN on Wednesday. "I know what I did was probably one of the worst invasions of privacy someone could experience."
Chaney is also accused of swiping financial information, screenplays and private conversations between celebs, Birotte added. He acted alone and made no money off of the hacks.
He explained to CNN of his actions: "[It] started as curiosity and it turned into just being, you know, addicted to seeing the behind-the-scenes of what's going on with these people you see on the big screen every day."
He continued, "It just happened and snowballed....I didn't know how to stop doing it myself. I wasn't attempting to break into e-mails and get stuff to sell or purposely put it on the Internet. It just -- I don't know."
His computer was seized about six months ago in the probe. "I've had like six months to think about it," Chaney said, "it eats at me... When you're doing it you're not thinking about what's going on with who you're doing it to."
If convicted on all 26 counts, Chaney (a criminal authorities now call a "hackerazzi") could serve 121 years in a federal prison. He was released on $10,000 bail on Wednesday -- and is banned from using a computer or any device with internet access, and is forbidden from consuming controlled substances.
