memory time
There's a park behind my house and it had an old school slide with two large metal support poles.
One day a kid licks the pole, tongue is stuck bad and a crowd gathers. Me and a few friends were there too.
Some kid went to get her Mom. A few minutes later the Mom comes running out with a pot of boiled water. I kid you not, we could see the steam when she was in her front yard.
Mom comes to the pole and another adult asks her - Louise or Lesley or Lucy, (can't recall her name)...just what are you going to do with that?
She ignores him and tells the kid on the pole to brace himself. Same adult guy and two older kids start screaming NO NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!
She stepped back and someone eventually got a washcloth, dipped it into the water and used it on the pole above his mouth and eased his tongue off with some minor damage.
Paramedics showed up and everything, it was a pretty big deal
To this day I often wonder how traumatized the 10 or so kids would be (not to mention pole-kid) if she went ahead with her plan
A crack opened up in the ice around South Bass island, Lake Erie. Add sustained winds and this is what starts to happen on Kelleys Island 3 miles away.

Wow, a few things here...
Ice is heavy and when it heaves up the bank like that, what the hell is that guy doing standing so close?
Do you have the same accent Pony? It said Ohio but the one guy sounded like he was from the deep south.
We have a reservoir by my house and we used to walk out on it during the winter as far as possible, listening to the ice heaves. See who runs first sort of thing.
I've heard ice heave and settle, never seen one move like that!
Freezing rain/snow storm moved thru yesterday. Knocked out the power at work and everyone got to go home way early. Nothing better than a nice layer of freezing rain on the road followed with a coating of snow to really make the driving interesting. And then it moved out and the cold air came in. Currently a balmy 4° (-16C) outside right now.
That's why I complain about our lack of snow removal. Lots of it on the roads and big piles on the sides. Weather warms up a little and some of those piles melt right back onto the road. It gets colder, more snow and you're driving on ice.
Today it's going to be around +4C...a nice break from the cold.
Crazy weather continues...Denver officially hit a low of -4° (-20C) yesterday morning and they are forecasting the high for Friday to be 66° (19C)
My thermometer is one degree above zero right now. Summer!
oh crap that's indoors, nvm
Snow, snow, and more snow yesterday. Got about 8 inches total. First time since December 16th 2016 that we got more than 4" of snow in Denver
Sunny today and supposed to be in the 30's, but it's windy as fuck
We have around zero today, nice and sunny...this is how winter should be
Winter should be cold and gloomy
Hell no, that got old around my fourth winter in
Mom and Dad - Hey hal, why don't you go outside and build a snowman?!
