Supposed to reach normal averages by Monday, around -1. My thermometer outside has been past -20 for so long I think it's stuck.

Unexpected ice storm last night, good 1/8" of solid ice coating my truck, that was fun scraping off the windows. Plus the roads were absolute shit. I'd rather drive in an absolute blizzard than the aftermath of a fucking ice storm.

That's one of the things I DON'T miss about Vermont weather. Freezing rain.

We get that at certain times of the year, not very often. I recall one brutal white knuckle drive home from work where it was like bumper cars. No embellishment, I drove 10 kmh (-2 miles per hour) all the way home and all the streets had a black shiny glaze on them. I looked down from this hill towards our zoo and two city buses were sideways and every car was bumper locked going that direction. It looked like a post apocalyptic scene where cars are sitting abandoned on the freeway (TWD). It was a miracle I didn't hit anything but a few curbs going home. Bought my first set of winter tires the day after, not that they would helped much.

In eastern Canada they get brutal ice storms that knock out power for weeks and make travel near impossible.

Yeah, those are the same ones that used to affect us....it would hit Quebec and upstate New York and Vermont. Worst one I recall when I lived there was, no lie, about a 1/4" of solid ice coating everything. It took approximately 3 days to get the ice off your car if you wanted to go somewhere. If you were stupid enough to want to drive in it.

How about this latest shitshow. We've had extra cold temps for weeks now. Water mains are bursting all over the city. In one neighborhood in our SE, the water has frozen vehicles and objects on the lawns in place under inches of water. Resident on the news feels the city should help chip them out (it looks brutal) and says they pay civic taxes to ensure we have working, running water.

    My brotha!

No man, I mean literally chipping them out of the ice

It looked like a lot of hard work because they can't use warm water or heat sources because the temps have been around -30.

    Guy had a pickaxe

Sorry, but I've been praying for that since January.

Of course I don't have horses using the bathroom back there

It's fine if it's a slow melt, but we never get that here....it keeps going back and forth and back and forth. I had to dig trenches in the back yard a week ago to get the standing water to drain off. And just when the ground was starting to dry out, we got 8 new inches of snow this past weekend. And now because it has warmed up (and windy, the wind multiplies how fast it melts), it's going to turn the yard into a swamp again

Do the dawgs do their business back there?

Yeah we have so many false springs it gets annoying. I think I put the drain pipes on and off five times last year. Definitely not a trial.

Nothing like getting the ol lawnmower out and smiling at the sun ...then watching it snow the next week
