yeah I get a little antsy reading about 16 yr old hackers who get into the Federal Treasury database...

I try and have faith... but stability and seemingly solid defenses are only as good as what the last guy put into them.

Can you imagine...the net goes dark. What's your first day like?

going to the bank in person to find out what you have
going to a gas station with whatever disposable assets you have on hand...same for the grocery and clothing stores..
any portion of your job done online morphs into phone calls (if cell towers and satellites still work) and hand written documents....sent through an ailing postal system suddenly overwhelmed with letter mail...

and if you have an argument with someone, no more googling for links...you would actually have to find a book, tear out the page with the reference and then mail it to them!
