Jez, here's the logical fallacy - everyone is so concerned with Rs and Ds "working together" - the problem is, the Democrat party has been largely coopted by Progressives, the leadership has been taken over. That's why you're hearing "this aint your father's democrat party," basically attacking with the cloward piven alinsky playbook. But unlike Wilson's, FDR's times, there has been a large infiltration of the mindset in other significant areas that have helped sway public opinion in their favor - HUGELY to the country's detriment. Hollywood, the media, universities, were all infiltrated with people pushing the mindset. Basically giving politicians cover. Ever wonder why Rs in a scandal resign almost immediately whereas a D claims innocence to the last, having to be caught so thoroughly red handed that there is no other rational choice for people to make. (We all know politicians in general have these issues, but when a large portion of the public makes excuses for them, it only serves to entrench the problem and make it larger, more systemic...as we have been seeing unfold over the last however many years.)
So ostensibly, it has come to the point where it is no longer in our best interest for Rs to "reach across the aisle" - its the Democrats who should be reaching across the aisle, but they sit there, obstinate, thinking public perception is fully cemented on their side. Its why the super committee was set up to fail, Ds choosing among the worst abusers of finances to go hash out out monetary issues. Right in line with tax cheat for treasury, AGW sap for energy scy, inputee of Obamacare writing for supreme court, etc...
If this were the Democrat party of old, we'd have across the aisle happening with exponentially more frequency. But since the party has been hijacked by a bunch of socialist fuckwads, all it does is make moderate Ds more likely to lose their seat. Polarization.
That's why the tea party was called such names, people claimed they were nuts - because a lot of the people running under that flag arent in this for their own serving of gravy - this is the country at stake here. The philosophy is to actually restore the functions of government, to cull back the twisted and gnarled behemoth it has become. Get rid of government encroachment, because at this point our government breaks our constitution regularly and we havent been able to say too much about it - that's whhy you elect people that will return it to what it should be - if its not stopped, we're going dead fking broke because they will NOT stop spending.
But of course, if you talk about even shrinking the rate of growth of the government, you're trying to deny poor children an education, a chance at life; you're trying to kill grandma that relies on the SS & Medicare morphine drip; you're a warmonger for not wanting to pull the entirety of our military home from everywhere abroad.
Such is the havoc Political Correctness has wreaked on the country. God forbid something you say offends someone, god forbid they get spoken to plainly. Its why Joey has such a cow when you ask him to rationalize his political beliefs: unfortunately for people of that mindset its the image of beliefs and not the substantive downstream effects of those beliefs that matter -
thus,
"as long as your heart is in the right place you're ok, results dont make a shit of a difference."
Until we can remove the PC cancer, we're going to continue having these problems.

My penis is growing upset that no volunteers have come forward.
I wanted to be a Monk, but I never got the chants.
Where the fuck was 1.85 gas? I haven't seen prices like that since pre bush jr
You know that's the argument of the right.. They say Clinton just cruised through on the hard work and policys of George Sr...
Oh please. "It's Bush's fault" is old, tired, and boring. Every President has to run on their own record. Period.
Personally, I miss GW!

Bush jr was basically harmless, other than the things he rubber stamped (like the Patriot Act, getting us into more war, etc.) It is my opinion that the vast majority of the things he is "guilty" of stemmed directly from a Democratic Congress. Kinda like how the things Clinton is lauded for stemmed from a Republican Congress. I could be off base here, but that's the way I remember it. Going further back, Bush sr was overall effective in blocking the worst of the BS from Congress, and Reagan, though he certainly had his faults (Reaganomics anyone?) did so as well.
