Hmm. This year in every game they said he was trying to break his winless record in the playoffs. I have to look at home to see what they meant then.

I think he's winless in starts, but a pitcher can get a win in relief.

And it looks like that's exactly the situation. Price is winless in every postseason game he's ever started, but he has gotten several wins in games he's pitched in relief.

0-7 as a starter, the team is 0-8 when he starts.

I was imprecise in language, but not incorrect. Regardless, I am not sure I'd be thrilled about the Cubs paying him $217M for 7 years. Maybe the Red Sox Nation is different.

We've won several World Series in the last 100 years, we can afford to take a chance

Cubs add John Lackey to rotation with two-year, $32 million contract

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Cubs have agreed to a two-year deal with right-hander John Lackey.

According to Rosenthal the two-year contract is worth $32 million, allowing the Cubs to avoid making a commitment beyond 2017 to a 37-year-old pitcher. Lackey turned down a one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer from the Cardinals, who now receive a first-round draft pick as compensation for losing him to their NL Central rivals.

Lackey is coming off a fantastic season for St. Louis in which he logged 218 innings with a 2.77 ERA and 175/53 K/BB ratio. It was by far his best season since his prime with the Angels a decade ago, but combined from 2013-2015 he started 93 games with a 3.35 ERA and 500/140 K/BB ratio in 605 innings.

Chicago being in the market for rotation help beyond Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta and Lester is no surprise, but being able to add a playoff-caliber starter in Lackey without a huge long-term commitment has to be considered a win for Epstein and the front office.

And might I add. 8-5 in the playoffs with a 3.11 ERA.

Cubs sign Ben Zobrist to four-year contract, trade Starlin Castro for Adam Warren and PTBNL

The Chicago Cubs and infielder Ben Zobrist have agreed to terms on a four-year contract through the 2019 campaign. Zobrist, 34, has earned a pair of American League All-Star honors during his career spanning all or part of 10 seasons with Tampa Bay (2006-14), Oakland (2015) and Kansas City (2015). He is a career .265 hitter with a .355 on-base percentage and .431 slugging percentage, good for a .786 OPS. Zobrist has averaged 36 doubles, five triples, 17 homers, 77 RBI, 82 walks and 87 runs per 162 games of his major league career.

The Cubs also acquired right-handed pitcher Adam Warren and a player to be named from the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Starlin Castro. Warren, 28, went 7-7 with three holds, one save, a 1.16 WHIP and a 3.29 ERA in 43 appearances with the Yankees last season, splitting time between the bullpen (1-1, 2.29 ERA in 26 appearances) and the starting rotation (6-6, 3.66 ERA in 17 starts).

Castro departs the Cubs a three-time All-Star and a career .281 hitter with a .321 on-base percentage, .404 slugging percentage and a .765 OPS in 891 major league games covering the last six big league seasons.
