The plate discipline and small ball coupled with power and aggressive base running is extremely impressive. Good on Joe for letting Lackey work it out. AZ went so deep in the pen, they are going to have a tough time in this series. 14-6 final.

Schwarber went off on a cart after a collision with Fowler. MRIs tomorrow.

    He's out for the season.

Home opener last night. Had my annual old Style 16 oz for game time.

Go cubs Go. Great teams find a way to win and they did last night. 6-1.

On pace to win 138 games.

MLB 30, rocked: Cards the last club Lackey needed to beat

Remember me? Righty stifles former club on milestone night

ST. LOUIS -- John Lackey joined a select group of pitchers who have beaten all 30 Major League teams, and he did so at one of his favorite ballparks to pitch in, Busch Stadium. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, he was pitching for the rival Cubs.

Lackey struck out 11 and held St. Louis to four hits over seven scoreless innings in Chicago's 5-0 win Monday night. He's now 12-4 in his career at Busch Stadium, which was his home turf from July 31, 2014, through last season.

    ...

The 37-year-old Texan is the only active pitcher who has accomplished the feat and the first since Tim Hudson did so on July 26, 2015. The list also includes Hall of Famer Randy Johnson and former Cubs Terry Mulholland, Jamie Moyer and Dan Haren. Al Leiter was the first to do it, back in 2002.

    ...

Lackey also became the 245th pitcher in Major League history with 2,500 or more innings -- he's third among active pitchers -- and he notched his 20th career double-digit strikeout game

Jake Arrieta throws a no hitter in Cincinnati!

That's 2 no hitters in 11 starts... just 9 starts between no hitters is the 3rd fastest in MLB history.

24 consecutive quality starts. The dude is on fire.

Meh, no hitters have become too common now for them to be anything to get excited about

I feel the same way about the World Series. There's a winner every year so what's the big deal?

I still think a no hitter is exciting to watch. And there hasn't been that much of an uptick, last year was just higher than most.

    2007 - 3
    2008 - 2
    2009 - 2
    2010 - 6
    2011 - 3
    2012 - 6
    2013 - 3
    2014 - 4
    2015 - 7

Meh, a no hitter is just not the big a deal anymore to me

Wanna impress me as a pitcher? Throw a perfect game, now THAT is truly a rare accomplishment and really amazing.

It's just that they make SUCH a big deal over a no hitter still...statistically, it's almost just as "rare" for a hitter to hit for the cycle, but nobody makes as big a deal about that as they do for a no hitter.

Now wait until one of his pitchers throws a no hitter...

The Red Sox haven't had one since 2008 and the Rockies only have one in their entire history and that was back in 2010
