The idea was that Vic and Hamels were on the last year of their contracts, so trade them off for the rest of the year and bring them back next year. Ruben Amaro has been quoted as saying that he'd do everything possible to keep Hamels in Philly, and that they believe that they can turn everything around after the Allstar break. We'll see what happens.

Damn American League lost another All-Star game! The National League gets home field advantage for the World Series once again, all because of a stupid assed exhibition game. You know this sucks, but you never realize how much it sucks until your team gets screwed over because of it. Home field advantage should be determined by win-loss record or division championship. If both teams are either division champions or wild cards, then their win-loss should determine home field advantage. If a division champion is playing a wild card, the home field advantage should go to the division champion. A wild card team shouldn't have the advantage over a division champion regardless of record.

I actually like this set-up. It gives this "exhibition" game actual meaning and the players actually show up to play it. Look at the all-star games for other sports. Nobody really gives a shit about them. Why? Because they have no meaning whatsoever. If other sports' all-star games had meaning attached to them like the MLB's does, maybe the athletes would give a shit more, and maybe people would care more about it.
