£20 a bottle
That's currently less than $40 AUD.
I have absolutely no knowledge of whiskey or scotch whatsoever. So don't laugh at me when I ask: Does the age of the whiskey really demand those high prices? Do the older whiskeys really taste that much better?

Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it.
i really don't have that much of a clue either , i like this stuff which is a blend of 3
and i don't think this is aged ( i maybe wrong )
i like this as well
it's meant to have sat for 12 years , but if i had 1 of each in a glass i couldn't tell the aged one
i could tell the difference between one of those and a cheap supermarket bottle though (well i hope anyway)
Yes, the age can definitely make a big difference to a scotch. Aged single malts
There is a minimum age just to qualify as being scotch whisky.
This GIVES SOME INFO FOR YOUR QUESTION
I love my scotch and usually buy only single malts for myself. I spent about 10 days in Scotland last year and had a ball buying a different malt everynight and always something not tried before or not available in Australia. Ice only - no mixers, that's sacrilege. !

if you are interested, i would recommend attending a whiskey/scotch tasting event if there are any in your area. if you have differently aged from the same distiller, it is clearly evident by how much smoother the more advanced age are. importantly, once it is bottled, it does not continue to "age", so a 30 year old bottle that was "aged 8 years" is 8 year old, not 38
The question of taste is somewhat subjective. In some ways, it is no different to wine and it really does depend upon your own palate. A palate can be trained to discern the difference in many aspects of taste but the bottom line is really that if it is something that you enjoy the taste of, that is all that really matters. There is no point in expending money based on someone elses tastes.

picked this up in duty free on the way back from madrid think it was about 40 euros , tastes a little bit smoother than the standard 12 year old with a touch more fruit spice i'd say
My currently enjoyed tipple:-
nice

It's not bad - I've had quite a few of the different Glen Moray whiskies on offer - none disappoint.
