    Movies Movies for Geeks 2012

Here's a list of the flicks that are coming out this year. We have a couple of must-see films. Being listed is in no way, shape, or form an endorsement... I fully expect some of these to be absolute stinkers.

    Devil Inside (already out)
    Underworld: Awakening (Jan 20th)
Haywire (January 20th) (Gina Carano beatin' peoples' asses)
The Grey (January 27th) (Liam Neeson vs some wolves)
Man on a Ledge (January 27th) (You're gonna have to google this one, it doesn't make much sense to me how they can make a flick about a guy standing on the ledge of a building)
The Wicker Tree (January 27th) (Update/Reimagining/Sequel to The Wicker Man and yes, Christopher Lee is in it)

The Woman in Black (February 3rd)
    Chronicle (February 3rd)
The Innkeepers (February 3rd) (Some kind of haunted house horror movie)
Kill List (February 3rd) (Stateside theatrical release)
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (February 10th) (Sequel to the crappy Journey to the Center of the Earth)
Safe House (February 10th) (Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds)
Ghost Rider - The Spirit of Vengeance (February 17th)
This Means War (February 17th) (I hesitate to put this on here because it can be construed as a Romance/Comedy with spies and violence in it, but has Reece Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pine in it. I thought it looked like it would be kinda good when I saw a preview for it, but you never know.)
Act of Valor (February 24th) (Something to do with Navy Seals)
Gone (February 24th) (Amanda Seyfried thriller)
Wanderlust (February 24th) (Paul Rudd, Jen Aniston Comedy... "from the director of Role Models")

Project X (March 2nd) (Teen party comedy flick)
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (March 2nd)
    John Carter (March 9th)
The Raven (March 9th) (John Cusack is Edgar Allen Poe pretending to be Sherlock Holmes... or something along those lines)
    Silent House (March 9th)
Mirror, Mirror (March 16th) (Some kind of Snow White adaptation... Julia Roberts is in it)
21 Jump Street (March 16th) (After reading about it, I think I'm gonna skip this one)
Casa De Mi Padre (March 16th) (Will Ferrell comedy)
    The Hunger Games (March 23rd)
Wrath of the Titans (March 30th) (Clash of the Titans sequel)
Goon (March 30th) (Hockey comedy starring Stifler)

American Reunion (April 6th) (American Pie sequel with the entire original cast)
The Cold Light of Day (April 6th)
The Cabin in the Woods (April 13th)
Bullet to the Head (April 13)
    The Three Stooges (April 13)
House at the End of the Street (April 20th)
Safe (April 27th) (Jason Statham crime thriller)

    The Avengers (May 4th)
    Dark Shadows (May 11th)
    Battleship (May 18th)
Men in Black 3 (May 25th)

Snow White and the Huntsman (June 1st)
    Prometheus (June 8th)
Jack the Giant Killer (June 15th)
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (June 22nd)
    G.I. Joe: Retaliation (June 29th)

    The Amazing Spider-Man (July 3rd)
The Dark Knight Rises (July 20th)
Neighborhood Watch (July 27th) (Scifi Comedy with Ben Stiller and others)

The Bourne Legacy (August 3rd) (Nope... Matt Damon's not in it)
Total Recall (August 4th) (Colin Farrell and I think they changed the story around a bit)
Warm Bodies (August 10th) (Zombie romance?!?)
    The Expendables 2 (August 17)
    The Apparition (August 24)

    Resident Evil: Retribution (September 14th)
    Looper (September 28th)

Skyfall (November 9th) (3rd Bond film with Daniel Craig)
Gravity (November 21st) (Sandra Bullock in space?)

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (December 14th)
World War Z (December 21st) (Brad Pitt)

Oh yeah, almost forgot: Hey Hal, Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 2 comes out on November 16th.

Personally, I think Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Hobbit are the "must sees" of the year.

After sitting thru that crap-fest that is The Dark Knight yesterday, there isn't enough money anyone could offer me to sit thru another Batman film. I wouldn't waste my bandwidth to d/l it illegally for free and I wouldn't waste a queue spot on it in my Blockbuster account. Hell, someone could give me the blu-ray of it when it comes out wrapped in $20 bills and I will tell them to shove it.

There's a few on that list I won't see either.

I'm done with crappy remakes for one.

I'm stoked for Dark Knight Rises, I thought The Dark Knight was fantastic... not sure how anyone could hate it (it got like 95% on rotten ), and the real special effects was unreal as was the acting.

Act of Valor might suck, but I like the concept for the movie. Using real active-duty Navy SEALs will make for one helluva show. The nerd in me has to see that.

World War Z has huge expectations for me too. And any other post-apocalyptic film on its way for that matter. Love that genre.

The Hobbit should be good, as could that Alien prequel... but I'm not interested in Men in Black, Bourne, Expendables, Spiderman. Nothing new there.

It's called independent thought...just because everyone believes what the critics and fanboys say, doesn't make it true

If people liked it, so be it, doesn't mean I can't be critical of it

There's plenty of movie I like that a majority of people hate and vice versa. I could give a rat's ass what a bunch of critics or IMDB review writers think

Again fair enough Likewise I'm sure you can understand how some people's disinterest in a movie you loved would be surprising. For me that's one I just figured everyone at least enjoyed. *shrug* Not a big deal or anything, just interesting

Yes and no....just because I like something, I don't expect other people to automatically like it. I can recommend things I like based on what I know other people like, but that's no guarantee they will like it to.
