But only the big companies were reliable enough to use...if some of the smaller filesharing services become suddenly popular, all the traffic will cripple their servers. That is if they can even stay afloat. X7.to was a minor filehost, but they have now closed down over all this.

I downed a RS file as a free user and got almost 300k...which is pretty good on my connection.

I imagine like Jez says, people will all move to something like Rapidshare again and cripple that server

Yeah, if people all the sudden move to a one smaller one, it definitely will cripple the servers. Im just thinking that there are so very many filehosts around that if they are used somewhat evenly, stuff will still be available. I mean, I personally almost always skipped on even checking the other filehost links if I saw MU or any of the other major ones. So they other services have always been there, but not used so much. We'll see how things go. All I know is that this all will not end.

What I think is, this will revert things back to actual sharing....the days of the revenue hosts is definitely limited. That's what is getting these places into trouble. And there are already cashwhore uploaders whining that if they can't get paid, they won't be uploading.

That will actually be fine by me because so many of those types of uploaders posted nothing but crap and they flooded forums everywhere with their links.

All I can think is that they are closing the accounts of people with a lot of files uploaded (I had over 500 in my Fileserve account).

An easy solution is for file share companies to require membership to upload or download anything. No more free users.

That way they can track each download by member ID and place all blame on the person initiating the download or the person who uploaded the file in the first place.

Anyone uploading or downloading copyrighted material would leave their digital footprint on everything they do. Users would be forced into legitimate use of the site or suffer the consequences should the site be investigated.
