Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless is fighting for a very important cause.
The actress, 43, was one of seven Greenpace New Zealand volunteers arrested Monday in an environmental protest aboard a Shell-owned oil-drilling ship; they were each charged with burglary. Greenpeace insists that no property was taken or damaged during the 77-hour occupation.
"This chapter has ended, but the story of the battle to save the Arctic has just begun," Lawless told Us Weekly in a statement before being arrested. "Seven of us climbed up that drill ship to stop Arctic drilling, but 133,000 of us came down."
"We will continue to stand in solidarity with the communities and species that depend on the Arctic for their lives until Shell cancels its plans to drill in this magical world, and makes the switch to clean, sustainable energy."
The seven protesters had boarded the Noble Discoverer at Port Taranaki on Friday. They will appear in New Plymouth District Court Thursday.
