    Remembering Anothersite

Most of the members here at Teh Basement met on a different forum. It was based out of Britain and folks from all over the world came to visit. At one point it had over 50000 members, which is no small feat for any internet forum.

Unfortunately the forum has been closed and from what I understand the administrator did everything he could to try and save it.

I personally spent 5 years there...it was my first forum and I had no idea how forums worked or what the protocol was for chatting with strangers.I was very intimidated to say the least.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People have left Anothersite for various reasons...their personal lives changed, they grew out of it, or perhaps they had a disagreement with a fellow member (nooo hal, that doesn't happen on the net does it???!!! )

For whatever reasons, that chapter in life is now closed and it's time to turn the page.

Please feel free to reminisce, maybe describe how you met someone at AS or relate an event that sticks in your mind. This isn't a place to rehash bad times or arguments...I thought some of us could make a post or two about the good times.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks dm for Anothersite, it got me through some lonely nights and literally opened up the world to me.In that spirit, I look forward to making Teh Basement my new home and having the same or better experiences here

In the spring of 2005, I joined AS and ended up posting in the basement strangely enough

folks that come to mind - Langster, Drow, Gumbydammit, Websponge, Wolfboy, Crotchsnot, NaughtyNurse, xxtoonangelxx....

The forum was predominantly British and for some reason...Drow in particular took me under his wing.He thought I was absolutely nuts which was probably due to my nervousness.

It was still relatively small at that time...the pron being the hilight of the forum.I moved up from the basement at one point and decided to infiltrate general chat.I found that I got way more of a reward for some reason, when I met new people and chatted about our various pathetic lives, than when I looked at porn for 5 hours straight. It was an odd moment of enlightenment for me....

I joined in 2005 or 2006 when I got disgruntled with bns live and St George invited me and Little Vixen here. Don't know what's happend to St George but I've met many new friends and hope to meet more. Glad to see my old friend, Binky, from bnslive. Wish LV would come back.

For many years AS was my late night escape into a world with no stress.
I have to admit, it was mostly the NSFW areas that helped in the 'letting go', but before the shutdown, it lost its shine for me. the only highlight being a personal attachment to a poster whom I knew in the real world.

AS was great, but frustrating sometimes. I hope this new home will be different and better.
Nostalgia isnt what it used to be after all.

come back to my place, I'll show you how to drink tequila.

I loved AS. Right until the end I had a lot of fun there. Above all else I met some great people, people I consider true friends.

I gave time and money to that site, and in return I got countless laughs and a few tears. Some amazing links, some fantastic jokes, an in to a lot of memes and things I would have otherwise never seen. No matter what went on in the outside world, I knew people who cared or would at least mercilessly mock me were there to turn things around When one person was down, the rest picked them up. There were characters of all sorts, and like them or not it made you think. It was a true microcosm. Perhaps there are other communities out there, but in my mind for a good long time AS was the best there was because of the members who formed its core.

    --------------------

I do need to say this though. And I hope it doesn't sully the atmosphere Hal was going for here in this thread.

Things changed recently, and when the invitation to come here was extended I jumped on the opportunity. My best friends from AS had come here and I wasn't going to lose them. The people are worth far far more than the net address. I never made a peep of trouble, had a cross word on AS, nor did I personally recruit a single member.

So when I was not only downgraded from mod to nothing but banned yesterday without notice... it left a sour taste in my mouth. After all those years and great times it came to an end like that?

No warning, no questioning.. just a straight ban. Perhaps the first one to occur out of actions taken on other forums (which were neither ban worthy nor malicious)

I'm not going to hold a grudge... it's not worth it and like I said, AS and dm gave a lot to me for a lot of years that I won't forget. The friends I made amazing and thankfully are here now. You guys are far, far more valuable than anything else.

I'm looking forward and couldn't be happier that I am here.

Love you guys (and gals). Cheers to the next 5 years.

After I arrived and met the Brits, I felt alone on a life raft far out to sea.... It was soooo strange talking to a guy in Germany about shitty wireless keyboards one minute, then hearing about something that happened in his home town that our national news hadn't even picked up yet.I'm reminded of the first London Tube bombings....there was a guy at AS who worked near the area
    it was happening in.

Of course the best times were talking to a foreign person and hearing how he likes to roger his wife Made the world a lot smaller and less mysterious for me...

One of the kindest and funniest guys I met was Godfather...him and G_Man were tearing up the forum every night and GF was always considerate and friendly towards me.
Then I found out that they were both North Americans and Godfather lived in my home country.....I was ecstatic

...not such a big deal now I guess because we see folks from South Africa to Australia here on ze forums every day...Sexicans, Finnicans...the works

    Nice thread idea, HAL.

I discovered Anothersite late in 2005, I think, and did nothing but lurk for ages. There was plenty porn for unregistered members and I wasn't really sure if I should get involved...in the spring of 2006 I couldn't resist the temptation anymore and started posting. If I remember correctly, it was mostly folks like fricnjay, Enrico and Nemo as well as Corndog (anyone ever hear of that crazy bastard again?) who lured me into the general areas of the board. I had a lot of awesome conversations with lots of peoples both about serious and trivial topics. Some of them have grown to be friends, some of them disappeared, some of them probably wish the plague upon me. Since they hired me as mod I must have pissed quite a few people off over the years, and in some cases I regret that. If anyone concerned reads this: I did what I did because I felt it was necessary for the site's sake, not because I wanted to inflate my ego.

Anyway, I'm still not sure if I'm gonna be a feature at this place, but if you care at all you'll find me at dm's new place once it's up and running steadily. Godspeed and thanks for the memories, everyone!

i think i joined october 2006 and spent 10 months maybe more lurking the nsfw areas, then i started saying the odd 'thanks' then after a bottle of vodka i made my first post upstairs in a music thread about who would be in your fantasy band line up,then started posting a bit here and there ,one i logged on to find the nsfw areas hit by a lot of spam i asked what was up and lance replied ,he showed me how to snitch stuff ,which i liked it was my way of helping the site out i then got asked to join the trashies and a year later uber which made me feel a big part of the site and it was good getting to know all you guys the rest as they say is history
