it's funny...the company reps release a statement endorsing Sheen..."he's a professional and always brings that professionalism to the set...blah blah blah"
and yet his costar Jon Cryer makes a statement that's a bit more pissy and honest
Sheen gets something like 2 million per episode and they've had to delay shooting in the past because of his partying.
The man is living the life of his character on the show....
I personally don't think that his character or his skills merit that much money per episode....
a character like Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory however, is leaps and bounds funnier and more deserving of that kind of payday IMO
I don't think Sheen's character or acting skills are what merits his salary, it's just got to be that the show's ratings and/or demographic bring in the big bucks that warrant keeping him on. Sheen basically plays himself on the show and it's successful. He's not that great an actor and the writing isn't very inventive and often very cliche. Very few actors could probably pull it off with the ease of Sheen. I always get pissed off because he's supposed to be such a womanizer on the show and yet when he sits he crosses his legs like a big Nancy.Originally Posted by Hal-9000
Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory is a much more textured character but he's able to be played much broader for the big laughs. Not to take away from the actor who is quite well cast, but the character is so funny because of the great writing that goes into his lines. I'm not looking to start any arguments about this actor and his performance but that character could probably be played by any number of actors and the writing would carry the day.
I've always believed all actors are overpaid.
Except Andy Griffith in Matlock.
Meh... the entire industry just brings in a shit load of money for the work of a small number of people. Who else is all that money supposed to go to? I think the suits take their cut already.
Charlie Sheen just competes with one and a half other men for his salary. TBBT has 5 important cast members.
Not to mention Sheen's show is in its 7th season and has averaged more viewers and a far higher ranking from the get-go than Big Bang theory. I'm not sure all the reasons for that, and they're not doubt stupid but that's just the way it is I guess.
Just as an example: Big Bang Theory was the 42nd ranked show in its 2nd season with 10 millions viewers on average. In Two and a Half Men's second season it was ranked 11th and had 16 million viewers. Even now it averages higher viewership later at night than TBBT
Skill be damned, some people just get a number of lucky breaks... look at Matt Leblanc's career
That being said... TBBT cast members got a huge raise and just signed for 3 more seasons. Let's not feel too bad for them. They don't have hernias or family members sending them to rehab (yet).
I've got a good friend who's dad is a movie and tv producer. He's only worked on one thing you would have heard of and yet they own two mansions, drive benz' and never works more than 40 weeks a year
