Well, since I am bored at work and don't feel like doing anything, let me regale you with my experience at the US Women's Open this past weekend.

It was an awesome time, to say the least. Even with the crowds, we were able to follow around all the big names a few times and we got to see just about everyone play. The first day we spent mostly wandering the course and not following anyone in particular, mostly due to the fact that weather screwed up the whole tournament this weekend and instead of seeing the 3rd round on Saturday, we saw the completion of the 2nd round. So on that day, not everyone was on the course. But we did get to see Michelle Wie, Natalie Gulbis, Christie Kerr, Ai and Mika Miyazato, Amy Anderson (one of the amateurs that qualified for the Open), Morgan Pressel, Karrie Webb, Angela Stanford and Juli Inkster as well as a bunch of the lesser known golfers. We went from watching them tee off to hanging out at some of the greens to watch their approach shots and their putting. Watching these golfers in person is waaaaaay more impressive than what you see on TV.

But then at about 4:30-ish on Saturday, right after the first 3 groups of the 3rd round went out to try and squeeze it in to get everything back on schedule, the weather moved in. It was a torrential downpour and the lightning was uber scary because it was so close. So they called a weather delay and eventually scrubbed the rest of the day because of weather.

They planned on resuming the rest of the 3rd round on Sunday with 6:45 tee times to try and get the 3rd and 4th rounds all in on the same day. We got there a little after 7 and headed for the 1st tee to see the leaders take off. Finally yesterday we got to see Paula Creamer play and she's just amazing. The gallery following her went from huge to GINORMOUS almost instantly. After watching her tee off the first hole, we jumped ahead to 3 to see her putt. Then after following the leaders for a bit, we headed up to the 7th green and just camped out there for most of the day. It was a really tough par 4 and we saw a lot of missed putts, but we saw everyone come through that made the cut which was actually a lot more fun than following 1 or 2 groups around the course.

And then at about 3:30 the weather moved in AGAIN and caused a delay. We waited until 4:30 and they still hadn't updated as to whether they were gonna resume play, so we had to call it a day because it was a work day today and Colorado Springs is a 90 minute drive from Denver (although because of weather and traffic it too THREE FUCKING HOURS to get home yesterday ). Good thing we didn't wait because according to the LPGA website they didn't resume play until 6 last night and they still didn't get it all in.

But even with the weather problems, it was still an awesome time and I'm so glad I went. If you ever get a chance to go watch the pro play (men or women) and you are a fan of golf, I highly recommend it. And for those that think female golfers aren't as good as the men, you should actually watch them sometime because man, they made some impressive shots.

Glad you had such an awesome time Lance

I really like watching LPGA. Those girls are very strong golfers, and yet their swings are so nice and slow. Perfect tempo, so you can really watch and learn much more so than the big guys on the PGA with their huge swings.

For sure! I think the women don't get nearly the respect they deserve compared to the men. Sure, the girls can't hit it 320 yards off the tee, but that's not the important part of the game. As the old saying goes, "drive for show, putt for dough".

But that's what makes the girls so much more impressive. Most of them are just tiny little things yet they can still crush the ball off the tee. We followed Ai Miyazato for a few holes and watched her driving. She can't be more than 5 foot nothing and she was crushing her drives in the 270 to 280 yard range.

Take the driving aspect away from the game (because the men are definitely longer off the tee because they are just naturally bigger and stronger) and I would put any of those girls up against the guys when it comes to approach shots and putting.

Good idea. Luke Donald will be there so if he's playing well I might need to see what this "World Number One" is all about
