Baltimore speed cam cites a stopped car
WTOP 103.5 FM News
WASHINGTON - When Daniel Doty got a $40 speeding ticket for driving 38 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone, he was outraged because he wasn't speeding.
In fact, his Mazda 5 was stopped.
Two photos issued with the citation as evidence show Doty's car was stopped at a red light with its brake lights on, reports The Baltimore Sun. The car is shown motionless as traffic passes by on a cross street.
The incident happened at the intersection of E. Cold Spring Lane and Hillen Road in Baltimore. It's the seventh speed camera that the newspaper has reported has issued incorrect readings.
The city's speed camera contractor says tickets are reviewed for possible errors, the Sun reports. A police officer also reviews the potential citations.
Doty, a lawyer, told the Sun that it is "shockingly obvious" from the citation that the car was stopped. He plans to challenge the ticket in court Friday. His vehicle was ticketed in April 2012.
