NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Connecticut State Police said they were assisting Newtown police after a shooting was reported inside a Newtown school Friday morning.

The shooting was reported at Sandy Hook Elementary School around 9:41 a.m., according to Connecticut State Police. Few details have been released during this unfolding situation, but state police said this is one of the worst shootings emergency officials have seen in a long time.

According to the NewsTimes, the children inside the school have been evacuated to a nearby fire station

The Newtown Bee is reporting multiple police, ambulance and emergency crews are at the scene, and there are multiple reports of injuries being reported.

The superintendent's office said the district has locked down schools as a preventive measure to ensure safety of the students and staff. According to Newtown officials, afternoon kindergarten is canceled for Friday and there will be no midday bus runs.

According to sources, Yale-New Haven Hospital has activated emergency triage unit which responds to mass casualty incidents.

I'm against guns but when this is happening they will have to increase their security. Metal detectors & a couple of trained shooters guarding the entrance would probably be better than arming every single teacher. The parents would probably all be willing to pay towards the cost.
