The Internet is abuzz with yet another Beyonce controversy. This time unflattering Super Bowl pictures of Beyonce are involved.
According to Feb 6 reports in the Huffington Post, Newser, Slate.com and other news outlets, Beyonce’s publicist is fighting to get certain unflattering Super Bowl photos of Beyonce yanked from the Internet. Unfortunately, the plan has backfired and efforts to have the offending photos removed have had the opposite effect.
News media, blogs and celebrity gossip sites are pulling out all the stops to display the offending photos. As if that weren’t bad enough, record numbers of fans, haters and curiosity seekers are surfing the Net in search of the unflattering Beyonce Super Bowl photos, so they can see for themselves what the fuss is all about.
Like the candid (and much more flattering) post-Super bowl photo of Beyonce and husband, Jay-Z in a passionate embrace backstage, the offending Super Bowl pictures have gone viral. Other websites are eager to capitalize on the search for the offending photos, which have taken the Internet by storm.
Websites that previously had no interest in Beyonce’s Super Bowl photos are now scrambling to post the controversial pictures on their sites. Sites that included the pictures of Beyonce in their coverage of her Super Bowl halftime show, are now isolating the “unflattering” photos and featuring them even more prominently on their sites.
Thus far, the only thing Beyonce’s publicist has succeeded in doing is drawing undue attention to the very photos they wanted to have removed.
You might want to check out the controversial photos here or at the link below while you still can -- just on the off chance that Beyonce’s publicist somehow succeeds in having them removed. It may be a situation of “now you see them, now you don’t” like the poolside kissing pictures of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart that were yanked from the Internet four months ago.
According to the Feb 5 Gawker, the Beyonce Super Bowl photo controversy began when news and entertainment site Buzzfeed published a feature entitled “The 33 Fiercest Moments From Beyonce’s Halftime Show.”
The following day Buzzfeed received a phone call from Beyonce’s publicist asking them to remove all unflattering Super Bowl photos of Beyonce, despite the fact that those photos were legally obtained.
The phone call was followed by an e-mail request which read as follows:
"Thanks for taking my call. As discussed, there are some unflattering photos on your current feed that we are respectfully asking you to change. I am certain you will be able to find some better photos.
The publicist, who signed her name as “Yvette,” went on to specify which photos of Beyonce she was felt were the worst.
Were Beyonce and her publicist over-reacting?
Not only did Buzzfeed refuse to remove the offending photos, they published a second article entitled The 'Unflattering' Photos Beyonce’s Publicist Doesn't Want You To See,” devoted solely to the unflattering photos they were asked to yank.
Not only are the photos still on Buzzfeed’s site, they’ve begun cropping up on scores of other websites, as well.
The Buzzfeed site has gone down several times from the increased traffic load today. Some of the other sites displaying the unflattering Beyonce Super Bowl pictures have been rumored to have malware and viruses attached.
