Pancake mix and syrup brand that has long-standing history and has been racially controversial.
Under pressure, the brand was updated to a more modern "mammy".
Personally never thought anything about it, just a brand not unlike Betty Crocker. But it is used as racially coded joke language. But so is "uncle Tom", which means a black race trader, so it cuts both ways.

The Betty Crocker story is a fascinating marketing (and psychology) case study. For decades, people (women) wrote (maybe still) to Betty, thanking her for her advice and recipes, and inviting her to speak in their communities. The company never responded with the truth, which was that there was no Betty Crocker. She was a marketing creation.
