Hey mate, I just read this. You'll have your own interpretation, but some Americans can come across as completely callous and combative when it comes to connecting any sort of tragedy with gun restriction. I've come across the same here myself a few times.
It's based on a principled gloves-off, no holds barred fight for free will, individual responsibility and right to
personal protection that seems to overpower any statistic - or (as far as many are concerned) logic.
There is a logic to their argument, but it comes from a mindset that is not really fathomable as a personal experience for non-Americans. They know that Y is bad, but are not willing to give up their X to improve someone else's Y.
Overlook this odd characteristic and they're basically a good bunch. As long as you don't try and take their guns off them
I don't think RBP was being threatening. You put up a good argument (i.e. fight), and he was probably going to do likewise.
