I'd wager that the old one is still active. Unless the new variant eliminates / kills the old variant, which you and I both know is not the case.

In the UK the % of delta versus Omicron can be clearly seen, as starting small with both testing positive, and the swinging as omicron become the dominant variant, the old one eventually becomes transmitted much less.
The 'factoid' is wrong, as plenty still test positive for old, but when the new one eventually surpasses it by being more infectious the old one becomes old news.
