Bobby Brown Serves Just 9 Hours of 55 Day Jail Sentence for Third DUI

By Justin Ravitz - Us Weekly

Guess that's their prerogative. After being sentenced to 55 days in prison late last month for a DUI charge, Bobby Brown spent a total of nine hours behind bars in the L.A. County Jail on Wednesday, March 20, TMZ reports.

The R&B singer, 44, checked in just before 10 a.m., and was released at 6:58 p.m., according to the site. Although the star, who has two earlier DUI arrests on his record, was initially set to serve nine days, chronic overcrowding necessitated his extra-early release.

Brown was also sentenced to four years probation, and was ordered to serve an 18-month alcohol program on the charges, all stemming from his October 2012 arrest for driving under the influence and with a suspended license. He was arrested in spring 2012 on similar charges -- and was convicted in 1996 for DUI.

The former New Edition crooner and ex-husband to the late Whitney Houston wed love Alicia Etherede in Hawaii last June.

Depending on who was in the car the time of the DUIs he'd be a three strike offender in Texas.

First DUI = Misdemeanor unless a child 15 or younger is in the car, then it's felony

    Second DUI = Automatic felony

    Third DUI = Third felony, you're f*cked!

What are the penalties for a DUI in California?
The penalties for a DUI in California will vary depending on the circumstances of the case, but generally, the sentencing guidelines for a DUI conviction are as follows.

    1st Offense - Jail - 4 days to 6 months - Fines and Penalties - $1400 to $2600 - License Suspension - 30 days to 10 months
    2nd offense - Jail - 10 days to 1 year - Fines and Penalties - $1800 to $2800 - License Suspension - 2 years (which can be reduced to 1)
    3rd Offense - Jail - 120 days to 1 year - Fines and Penalties - $1800 to $18000 - License Suspension - 3 years

But due to overcrowding, nobody does that much. Especially in LA county, I think right off the bat they deduct 2/3 of your time as long as you "behave"

I think knocking off 54 days and 15 hours of a 55 day sentence is more than 2/3
