Man to police: 'Of course I'm drunk'

An Illinois man was arrested early Friday for public intoxication after admitting to police: “Of course I’m drunk. It’s Thursday night in Iowa City.”

Alexander John Kinzel, 21, of 25922 W. Apache Lane, Lake Barrington, Ill., was charged with public intoxication at 12:48 a.m. Friday at Washington and Clinton streets.

According to Iowa City police, Kinzel was identified by witnesses as a person who was involved in a fight at a nearby bar. He was not wearing a shirt and had blood on his arms and face, according to police. He was at Bo-James and was asked to leave by bar staff and would not do so, according to the complaint. Kinzel became physical with bar staff before being escorted out, police said.

Kinzel had a blood-alcohol content of .248 percent, three times the legal limit for driving. He is listed in the University of Iowa directory as a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
