    Rockenfellar Crash...

Alan McNish massive crash at Le Mans 2011

it was the Ferrari's fault, but in the drivers defence, when he would have checked his mirrors before making the turn he would have only seen the the no1 Audi.

McNish has defended the critisism that he should have showed a bit of patience and not made the move and i agree with him, the speed he was carrying through that corner was slower than a few of his/other front runners other laps.

all those 'racing drivers' calling it a silly/risky move are talking throught their ass. put them in the lead car at this type of race and watch them make the exact same move!

Im surprised you've not put up the Rockenfellar crash in the other R18 as this was considerably worse.....We camped at Arnage this year and walked up there when the race had finished and the steel support posts were bent in two, he was very lucky not to end up in the trees... bits of Audi everywhere... By the way the Corvettes are the best sounding car by a country mile!

i've been trying ot find a better vid than this but all footage seems to be the same.

yeah it was a huge accident and Dr Ulrich said Mike actually radioed into the team to tell them he'd crashed before getting out of the car!
this one was 100% the Ferrari at fault, the driver got excluded for it too.
just goes to show how safe these cars are now with their safey cells, both massive impacts and both drivers walked out of the wrecks.

i'm gonna make a trip over in the very near future to watch it live!
did you get any Audi souveneir bits?

Yeah there aren't many vids on youtube that really show it... but I agree the ferrari was 100% at fault this time given that he gave plenty of warning he was coming through! There were plenty of crashes this year and thankfully the safety features meant all drivers made it out safely.

You can't beat watching it live over there.. I've been 5 out of the last 6 years and once you have been that first time you cant stop going back... half the fun is on the journey down! its cheap as well only 35 euros for the week camping permit and 60 euros for the full weekend race ticket... usually a bunch of us go down in convoy! I'm already planning for next year...

The mazda below was good to hear, I think that rivalled the vette's...

Oh by the way we did manage to pick up a few bits of carbon fibre from the Audi but it had been pillaged before we got there, however we managed to get a big bit off the front of Wurz's peugeut from the crash at Arnage... bloody stuff rips your hands to shreds though....

i know, as a rally marshal i have to clear up loads when theres an accident! you dont know what a splinter is untill youve got a bit of Carbon Fiber lodged in the palm of your hand!

Super job a rally marshall! Bet you have seen your fare share of incidents? How do you get into that by the way?

Those splinters were very nasty... couldnt believe it, ultra smooth on the outside but you could carve up your sunday roast with the rough edge!

    ohh you bet!

Getting in to marshaling is easy! either get yourself involved with a car club, theres bound to be one close to you, im a member of a club thats predominatley made up of rally marshals. or visit volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk they give you a good guide of what/how to do it. then sign up with the MSA for a marshals licence, i'd advise attending a 'new marshal trainign course' thir usualy free and well worth the few hours for beginers. then turn up to an event of your choice, sign on, get the goody bag then your off! if you do it without a club then the chief marshal should assign you with an experienced crew to begin with. if you go through a club they will sort you out!
