Journos who write on science are just as click-batey as everyone else.
I read this headline today: "Canadian astronomers find 8 more mysterious repeating fast radio bursts from space"
Naturally your first thought is "maybe it's aliens!" So I read the article... it's coming from merging neuron stars causing repeating explosions. The "mystery" is that they don't know what type of neuron stars. Ok, that's fascinating, but you d-bags know exactly what you were doing with that headline. Thanks CBC.

When I open a new tab in FF I've got it set to display 6 of the latest news stories, various sources I guess. It's not geo-specific like the google.ca main page.
I find that 4 out 6 are usually click bait disguised as super interesting stuff like you mentioned Not quite - here's an exercise that chiropractors hate that eliminate back pain forever, but close.
I just learned something
It's in the Firefox settings under home content. Categories you can tick:
Top sites (sites you visit most)
Recommended by pocket (this is the one that displays my news stories after opening a new tab)
Highlights (a selection of sites you've saved or visited with a further choice of selections - visited pages, bookmarks, most recent download, pages saved to pocket)
---------------------------------------
Most of it seems kind of redundant. I got a mess 'o bookmarks, why would I need a list of them after opening a tab?
pages saved to pocket - I thought I killed that pocket thing but it's providing the content on new tabs
most recent download - why?
and visited pages - I right click my forward and back button and have that info in a dropdown
I get the sense they think we're a bunch of dumbasses
I was with a bank manager yesterday and he had multiple windows open and was flying through some account stuff, some estate stuff and printing documents from the government.
I mentioned it appeared he was using Windows 7 and was that an IE icon in the taskbar??
He responds - I don't know. I'm not very good with the computer stuff.
Dude is a bank manager and he doesn't even know what Windows OS and browser he's using...as he's flying through it?
I haven't opened or updated IE in years GF. It's definitely a black hole area on my PC. I'm not even sure what it looks like now.

That's the joys of working at financial companies. They build these multi-million dollar legacy systems and only replace them every 20+ years, always with massive headaches. Poor guy probably has to use IE (or perhaps he really is just computer illiterate)
One of our main pieces of software only fully functions in IE. One of our other main systems is still DOS based. It's a joke. Funny thing is though, the DOS based program from the 80's works far quicker than any newer browser-based platform they've built in recent years, the main issue is that nobody is left in IT who knows how to service it, and there's no third party support left either.
Now our newer system that runs in IE has been in use by half the company for 8+ years, they've been trying to roll it out for other departments and promised it's coming 'in 6-12 months' for that entire time, but after 8 years it's already completely outdated and unacceptable to the first half of the company they rolled it out to. Allegedly it has cost our little company of 300 employees over $20 million and I think we'll probably scrap it before it's even really complete. I've heard stories like this from almost everyone in the banking and insurance industries at various companies, but the cycle just keeps repeating.....

Yeah I just need a simple functional browser with minimal real estate being used.
Here's a screen of mine. You may want to right click/view image for the actual size.
I have a few tabs open and the necessary stuff
Awesome tabs.
I wanted to be a Monk, but I never got the chants.
I always forget to crop
My CPU temps are high! I better fix this quick.

I don't know, but I'm not taking any chances. The computer's 10 years old, so the thermal paste I used on it is 10 years old as well. I ordered a new tube of paste with a liquid cooler and until I get it, the desktop's off until I get it installed. I'm gonna start disassembling it today. I hope I didn't burn out the processor.
On top of that, I couldn't log in to my laptop, because the log in page wouldn't pop up on start. I'm thinking one of the updates fucked it up. I tried everything that I found online through my phone to fix it, but nothing worked. So I just finished reinstalling windows on my laptop and he we are right now. I'm posting from a ridiculously fresh install. Now I have to set everything up again.
I'm having so much fun right now. I'm not turning anything else on at all today, just to be safe. Yay!
