I recently got so fed up with all the emails from places I've shopped at once and went on a huge tear unsubscribing from about a dozen of their email lists. Well lo and behold, about 3-4 of them have continued to email me two weeks later. I thought I'd heard somewhere that they'd instituted fines or punishment for that... maybe it was just a nice dream...
I think that when you supply your e-mail address, somewhere in their terms, you are giving them the right to contact you in perpetuity. And I have no idea how well those 'unsubscribe' links work. I've read that they are actually used to verify that your e-mail address is valid and they will keep e-mailing you regardless. I think you may need to actually contact a CSR to get it to stop, and even then I'm sure it's probably not easy.

The easiest thing to do is to flag those messages as spam so your spam filter will learn to send those right to your bulk mail folder and they won't clutter up your inbox. Also, you can always register a Yahoo of Gmail address and use it specifically for shopping online, that way you aren't getting bombarded with spam in your main e-mail account.

We're thinking of getting a home equity loan and paying off debt, so I went on Lending Tree to see what they had to offer, figuring it would be easier to go thru them instead of individually contacting several different lenders. No sooner did I hit 'send' then my cell phone burst into life with phone call after phone call. I must have received 30 calls in the first 5 minutes after sending my info. I had to actually start blocking numbers because they wouldn't stop calling.

Fuck me, my email app on my phone had an extra 'unsubscribe' function so I naturally started using that.... next thing I know I'm getting it asking me if I want to download the full unsubscribe app Someone had to see the irony there when they programmed it.

What do you mean? You pick a plan, sign up for it. If you want to change your plan or cancel it, you can do so any time you want.

Oh... ok. So you're not bound for a year or two.

    Wait... I already knew that.

I must have the dumb today.

Does that include the latest phone for free? Over here youre basically locked into a certain length of time contract basically to cover the cost of the free phone youre getting.

The phone is never 'free'. Under the contract plan, they have you locked for two years if you upgrade your phone for 'free'. With no contracts, you pay for the phone but are free to change your plan or cancel your service at any time. And I can't say for the other carriers, but T-Mobile here lets you break down the phone payments into 24 installments if you want, interest free. And you can pay it off any time you want.
