We have a yearly family meeting about my Mom this week with the facility and some of it won't be pleasant.

Sister arrives, we catch up, we plan our itinerary for the meeting, I slag my brother, sister talks about grocery shopping for us, cooking some meals for me, makes plan to see her friends tonight...

    and promptly passes out upstairs

She was up late last night with some old friends and drinking coolers until past two, which in her words was about 2.5 hours too late considering her age.

I love her like a sister..

I hope the kidlet is okay, Saturday doctor appointments are no fun (if they're out of the blue).

Try not to worry about strep. It's probably just from her two pack a day smoking habit

So we tried a job jar in this house. Mom had seen it in a comic strip (Hi and Lois) and she writes a few slips with minor tasks on them.

Short background is that both of my parents were very hard workers, and nothing was ever left 'undone' in our house. If something needed to be done, it was done.

Little hal decides to take out all of the slips, write some new ones and see if anyone notices.

I get in from playing one day and all of the slips are on the table, both of my parents are sitting there.

My slips say - bake lots of cookies, wash all of hal's clothes, make macaroni and cheese (a favorite of mine when younger), put in a swimming pool, make cakes with chocolate icing.

To this day I can remember the look of both my parents trying not to laugh while attempting to scold me about respecting other peoples things in the house

Ya I threw in the wash all of hal's clothes in an misguided attempt to deflect suspicion

My Mom did all of the meals, shopping, clothes washing, housework as part of her daily schedule...she didn't need to be reminded

The good old days...when you put your dirty clothes in a hamper and they magically would reappear in your room all hung up or folded

    Oh I have a story...

Prelude: Mom and Dad buy a summer cabin, hal is 12.

*My Mom was a tireless housewife, nothing was ever neglected in our home of five people*

I make the mistake of bitching about, and then telling my Mom something needs to happen - Ma, I need THESE pants tonight! Wash them now would ya?

My Mom grabs me by the ear, takes me downstairs and says - hal, your father and I will be going away every weekend throughout the summer. It's time you learned a few things.

This is the washer, this is the dryer. Pay attention. (then she gives me step by step instructions, start to finish on how to wash and dry clothes)

I'm almost in tears by that point and my Mom asks what's wrong. I say - This is too complicated and I'm just a kid!!!!

My Mom then asks - So I guess you'll be coming with us every weekend to the cabin if you can't look after yourself.

My first load of laundry was done 55 minutes later
