I know how you feel, dude. I have to drive an hour to get to the closest decent guitar shop, and then two hours if I want to get to a fantastic guitar repairman. It sucks living in the boonies sometimes. But I do it anyway, so...
A guitar isn't something you rationalize. When you've been playing as long as I have, it becomes something more than just a hobby. It turns into a love, a religion. You might never play in a band, or play live solo, or even record anything, but that's ok. It makes you happy just to play. And as illogical and fiscally irresponsible as it may be, it's worth the sacrifice.
