Problem is, if it's a refret, it's going to take a few days, and driving there and back costs me 20$.

So there and back twice would be 40$ and at that point, it's 1/5th what I paid for the guitar*guitar retails at 699$*. So I'm wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze.

I would probably also have to take a day off work to get there, and lose more in pay then what the guitar is worth.

A guitar isn't something you rationalize. When you've been playing as long as I have, it becomes something more than just a hobby. It turns into a love, a religion. You might never play in a band, or play live solo, or even record anything, but that's ok. It makes you happy just to play. And as illogical and fiscally irresponsible as it may be, it's worth the sacrifice.

I own several guitars, but have always wanted an ovation, and when this deal came up I jumped on it.

But it's becoming more then what it's worth I think.

If I add up all the gas*if I go back and forth all those times*, and figure in the price, and lost wages, I could have bought it new.

These are the trials of buying used guitars. I would try to get them to refret it but I wouldn't hold my breath. They'll probably say caveat emptor, the sale was 'as is', or some shit like that. If they don't refret it, get it refretted anyway... somewhere other than a Guitar Center.

It has a 30 day return, and I bought the year pro warranty for it.

It's a dead fret.

Those three strings on the 3rd fret make no note what so ever. It's like fret buzz, but it has more of a thunk to it, it has no semblance of a note.

I've never come across this before so I'm baffled.

No, I got you right. My Ibanez had a dead 15th fret on high E and B. Which means I was missing a high G on E and D on B. It'd been worn down to a nub. No note would play. The fret had to be replaced.

Frets have a curvature to them, so a flat fret would.....actually might be the problem but it doesn't look flat.

It's either flat or low. Either way needs replacing.
