Just had a look at my mobo specs - http://support.dell.com/support/edoc.../SM/techov.htm
4 sata slots.......... i think thats what i'm needing isnt it
Fuck yeah
I have zero knowledge when it comes to this, never built a pc, never swapped out a drive etc........ most ive done previously is install new ram and swap out a case fan......... and swap out a gfx card
Just wondering........ this new ram i'm getting (3 x 4gb sticks), could i run it alongside the current ram? Currently 3 x 2gb sticks......... 6 slots in total............ that would be 18gb......... nearly enough to run the space shuttle
I think 12 gigs is the max that my PC can recognize
I'm getting all excited......... its like waiting for christmas when i was 8 or 9
Yes each mobo has a ram limit.....mine may do 24 gigs.I think it's like the old days, as long as you put the same frequency ram in the machine and don't exceed the mobo limit, it will run.
You may have missed my comment in the other thread....there is nothing you can currently do on that PC that will use more than about 5 gigs of ram...even then, that's when you're encoding movies or de-rezing planets with the Death Star
Where are my glasses?
I understand...you got empty slots? Damn well fill them up!
Since you've left, I've saved the most important little tidbit of advice. You do know that ram comes in dual channel and triple channel? Meaning that if your mobo is dual channel it will want 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 sticks...if it's triple channel you want 3's, 6's, 9's etc
