Well, trying to get our house refinanced to consolidate debt and whatnot, everything looks like a go and we should close tomorrow afternoon.

If I would have known we would have had these kinda issues buying a house being sold under a government grant, I would have never done it. What a fucking hassle then and a hassle it is now.

It's the fucking Obama money that's tied to the house, if I didn't refinance it, I couldn't use any equity built up in the house for 15 years until the grant money sunset. What a load of shit. It sucks that I'm giving up about $26K in free money, but what good is a home if you can't use it as an asset?

Nope, it's written into that stupid grant, it shows up as a 2nd mortgage, and unless you are refinancing solely to get a lower interest rate, anything you do triggers the loan to be required to be paid back. Otherwise you have to wait the 15 years for it to sunset. You can't even sell the house until those 15 years are up without triggering the loan to be paid off.
