Ideally, they should be replaced in pairs, and I advise customers accordingly*. But tbh, if it was my car, or the car of a member of my family for that matter, I wouldn't bother. I'd replace 1 and if you don't feel a difference in the general handling of the car (pitches and is generally more wallowy on the side you haven't changed), then it'll be fine.
also, take some pics of the offensing shocker and I'll tell yuo if it's leaking. If there's just a little damp patch near the top of the main body of it, then tell them to go and do one
