Why do old people insist on trying to use the self-checkout at the stores when they've no clue what they're doing?

I was trying to research handheld GPS communicators at Cabela's and got a "cannot find that page" error message.
i haven't been watching much baseball, but since when have they been singing god bless america during the 7th inning stretch?
It was some old lady, I'm guessing at least in her 70's. It was obvious that she had NEVER used one before because the clerk manning the self-checkout section had to show her how to swipe the bar code over the scanner to ring up the item. And not only that, she had fresh produce with her that typically doesn't come with bar codes, so the clerk had to show her how to put the item on the scanner to weigh the item and then how to look up the item in the system. I think it was apples she had, and of course there's like a dozen different varieties of apples, so the clerk had to ask her what kind of apples they were. FFS just go thru the regular check-out line!
At least 10 years as far as I know, probably longer.
Well, an update on the crashed HDD that I haven't been able to recover. I tried several trial versions of highly rated recovery software and none of them would work. They couldn't "force" the drive to be read. The drive would only show up briefly when I turned it on and it spun up, but then it would disappear and it couldn't be seen. So, I was down to really old school stuff to try before giving up, or trying to do something mechanical to it. I put it in the freezer for a few hours and froze the drive. Put it in the dock and on it came! I ran Windows error check and repair and it made it all the way thru the process and said it repaired the drive. Right now in the middle of transferring over the first batch of files to see if it works. So far so good though.
*knocks on wood*
I've heard of that, even tried it but never knew it actually worked. Good on you - hope you recover it all.

I didn't use the recovery software (yet) on the transfer. I just tried a straight copying of files and it copied 97% of what I had selected before it quit on me again. So that's exactly what I'm going to do. It's back in the freezer now and I'm going to try again later. Dunno how long this will work for, so right now I'm only going to try and get the most important files for now.
Good plan man. If you're doing a straight file transfer, bust it up into chunks. Hopefully you get all or most of the files
