Criminals don't buy guns through legal channels. Well, most of them don't bother trying. Subsequently, they're not going to get flagged by the system, since their source (who is also a criminal) isn't running background checks. The vast majority of the people flagged by the NICS system are false positives, people with no criminal backgrounds whatsoever. And it takes a while for them to clear the snafu up with ATF. It's a royal pain in the ass. The "Fix" part of the Fix-NICS bill doesn't fix anything. It just adds a mess of names to the database that shouldn't be in there.Originally Posted by lost in melb.

Rocky Flats used to be a nuclear weapons facility that ran from 1952 until 1992 west of Denver. After it was closed down, they destroyed the facility and tried to reclaim the land even though it was a toxic site immediately after closing. Plutonium and uranium were both used there over the course of 40 years. Now, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service swears it's safe and they are opening it as a wildlife refuge this summer.

They claim that they hauled away all the contaminated soil from around where the facility used to be.
The weapons facility was right in the middle. It is a huge area, it couldn't be seen from the road.
