Looks like the US/Canada/Mexico bid for the 2026 World Cup just won.
Yeah, heard that on the radio. Strange that it was a joint bid but i suppose it made sense since it was in the USA back in 94 and Mexico in 86, plenty other countries probably deserved a shot first.
Id love to see a UK World Cup as we've got "real" footy stadiums over here (custom built for footy, no running tracks etc, far better atmosphere). Wembley, Old Trafford, Anfield, St Jimmy's, Ibrox, The Piggery, Millenium Stad, Croke Park just to name a few
Tbf i remember the US world cup in 94 and the stadiums over there are pretty good for footy too....... and who can forget Ray Houghton's screamer against Italy!!!
The thing that helps here is that in North America, the US especially, is we have more HUGE stadiums than any other country in the world, so it's easy to be able to pack large crowds in. And because of the MLS, there are quite a few 'soccer only' stadiums here now too, but they are usually quite a bit smaller. I'm sure most of the matches would be played in either NFL or college football stadiums because of their size. There are three universities off the top of my head that have stadiums that seat more than 100,000 people.
